They care because law firms and similar industries make up a big portion of the customers Microsoft is trying to sell GAI as a tool to. Losing them over GAI is a PR blow they don't want.

The most shocking revelation is that Microsoft got this far without listening to any of its professional users. What kind of broken culture and feedback loops resulted in this outcome? Will the 1 guy who wasn't a yes man be rewarded or punished?
As with every monolith of an organization, the layers of middle managers probably isolated the decision makers from those with opposition, and those with opposition from the decision makers. It’s a symptom of a larger systemic approach multinationals take. It’s not shocking, but it is disappointing.
