When I lived in Houston, I used electrolyzed borax powder and when the critters walked through it, the static made it cleng to their legs. Then when they groomed themselves they ingested it, died, and then the other roaches cannibalized the dead ones. After two weeks, the nest was gone.

I used it in my apartment at college years ago. As I understand it, the uncut boric acid powder is an extreme irritant (use w/caution) and roaches who pass through the barrier you lay out will eventually thrash themselves to death. Not a pleasant thought, I don’t recall seeing many roaches, either.

My understanding is that the boric acid doesn't poison cockroaches. The boric acid crystals are sharp and penetrate a protective coating on them that then causes them to dehydrate. Is this true?
