Cool ward 2 can be just like ward 3… at least you care … ours was ‘rebuilt’ with a 1 billion contribution from the province for amateur sport (pan am games). As a consequence, we have less space for amateur sport.

In 2023, a Building Condition Assessment of Eastwood Arena indicated that the facility was in fair structural condition but that it should be improved to make it more usable. Unfortunately, recent work at the arena revealed more serious concerns with the roof.

As a precaution, structural engineers have been engaged to conduct a thorough evaluation of the flat roof above the arena pad and, out of an abundance of caution, the arena will remain temporarily closed while awaiting the engineers’ full report.

As Ward 2 residents likely know, I've been working with City staff to review the current state of Eastwood Arena in preparation to renew it so it can be better used by the community. It's really sad to learn this and I know it will impact those who use the arena right now.

This will have the most significant impact on user groups who currently use the arena on a weekly basis. All user groups have been notified of the temporary closure and City staff are actively looking for alternative venues so all user groups can continue their programming.

I don't have an answer as to how long it will take to complete the engineers' full report or what the implications of the report will be, but City staff will keep me in the loop and I'll pass any new information along to Ward 2 residents.
