So Friday afternoon at 3p I got called in to a meeting and told my position had been eliminated.
There was no disciplinary issues, no write ups, no performance improvement plans, not notice. Effective immediately.

I got really shitty news today after a pretty tough month. A couple years ago I would be opening a very large bottle of whiskey to deal with it. Today I’m gonna not do that.

Not sure where you’re at, but here (Washington) is “at will” state or something like that. Neither you nor the employer have to have a reason to part ways. Which really makes it harder to process.
I reached out to that legal counsel (sister who just graduated law school) and she gave me very good advice:
“I cannot legally be referred to as “legal counsel.” #EmploymentLaw
That sucks in a large way. I'm very proud of you for not climbing in a bottle.
If there's a case, they'll latch on like the leeches they are.
