I miss the days when Silicon Valley created products that initially seemed great and the major drawbacks of which only became apparent later. Seems with AI we've skipped right past the benefits and gone straight to the costs

the actual students who did the modification say they did it to warn people that it was possible, yes, so well done them. But they also say (according to the article) that it was pretty easy to do, and to me that's a flaw inherent in the product that its developer should have foreseen.

The constant, ubiquitous deployment of networked cameras. Same fears were raised with Google Glass a decade ago. It's creepy as hell, and has horrific implications well beyond individual safety. A world where Meta have billions of live surveillance feeds? No thanks 🤮

Tech seems to have a could rather than should flavour. It doesn’t seem to matter which sex they are. Money appears to be all they care about.

After all the CEO of Twitter is a woman, and that’s going famously well.

It’s the horrific way each step is independent, for some deniability. Not “product X can do this”, but the glasses can live stream to a popular service, which can identify faces. The faces can be fired into a public recognition system. Which can then supply info to a third with personal info.

Apart from wearing them on your face and walking around with your hands in your pockets. A huge part of the backlash to this shit, all the way back to google glass, is how much more invasive the camera becomes.
