My favorite of all time is, (said with a Southern American drawl) "Why, I'd just LOVE to kiss you, but I just washed my hair." (Bette Davis in "Cabin in the Cotton," 1932)
I saw that movie back when I was a film major in college (a million years ago), and I've never forgotten it. It always makes me laugh! Bette Davis was so terrific.
That's an excellent quotation from The Philadelphia Story. I *will* say that it's a bit paternalistic/misogynistic. (The film.) I felt sorry for Tracy; she was caught in a society that didn't give her many options.
