"Like if you think (simple declarative sentence that feels like it could go on one of those wine o'clock signs you find at any tourist trap in the continental US)"
Oh, you mean like that "liberal activist" white boy who posed in front of the White House press room podium for his PFP on a school trip to grift people into thinking he is somebody?
When it comes to some of the biggest "activist" accounts, if they aren't sharing actual, practical ACTION items, I'm blocking. Many of them are just posting platitudes. That makes them DEactivist accounts in my book.
Also, do they ever criticize Democrats? If not, they're not useful right now.
We need elected Democrats to stand up to Trump. Many of them are ready to cave. Big "activist" accounts aren't worth your time if they don't tell you when Ds need to be pressured to do the right thing.
the Democratic party on a national level is cooked. They're plagued by the same problems as Republicans they just pander to a different audience. They'll tolerate fascism while actively crushing populist movements. A new party needs to be build up at the local level with grass roots organizing
Can someone explain to me the race for engagement? Is it monetized, ego? I could care less if anyone follows me. I’m just here talking to people and reading news.
What’s the grift of a bazillion followers, clicks or likes?
Republicans gained power by entrenching themselves in local power structures. There's quite literally thousands of elections that go uncontested every year that could be toppled with a coordinated push from the left.
Since I seek out posters who are good writers with kind hearts and integrity, I see lots of posts that are amazing -- mind opening, informative, and sometimes just funny or fun.
I also like posters who back up their 300 character assertions with longform articles, blogs, and books. #TruthMatters
I was just talking about one particular person who posted nothing except retweets with requests to "retweet if you agree". Even though I agreed with him politically, I didn't think that my retweeting would help the causes, so in the end it just felt like noise.
I've done a fair amount of retweeting, but never requested folks to "retweet if you agree". My motivation when I retweet an article, artpiece, cartoon, video, book etc, is not to persuade others, but to help us all explore more, learn more, and to help us buddy up with each other. Oh, yeah, I'm not AT ALL talking about that kind of sharing - that's all GREAT! I'm really talking about professional grifters who are trying to get people to share their posts like a chain letter in order to gin up engagement and more follows. That's not you! Carry on, friend! ❤️
I hate 'em. It's engagement bait on things ppl easliy agree with just so they can up their numbers. That and the accounts that make a point and then just put a bunch of random trending topics in there as well.
That was the one thing I'd go nuts about, accounts with thousands of followers who regularly posted "BREAKING" about either (1) news that was 8 hours old or (2) things that weren't news at all.
Going to be so weird with the influx of follow back and rt to agree and other garbage engagement and clout farming... hope the lack of a native algorithm continues to act like a weed blocker for that sort of thing.
I try to stay away from engagement farmers, or at least the posts that are deliberately engagement farming. mainly because I know that at best, 1% of people responding or retweeting actually read the posts. certainly not the initial tweeter.
For a new user, farming can be helpful. Less necessary here because we're not trying to avoid "them". I'm having trouble finding the people I read the most over there.
That's too bad. I rejoined Twitter after the first debate and had no idea who to follow because I'd left when it had a new owner (!). Several regulars helped me build my peops. And I'm a genuine person!
There's a browser extension called Sky Follower Bridge you might find helpful, that finds the people you follow on twitter if they have bluesky accounts.

Second, give a girl a follow back ya? Thanks!

I don't like that.
but someone asking you to just RT some generic statement or take is prrrrrobably just farming for followers?
And I’ve seen they are moving here also
Also, do they ever criticize Democrats? If not, they're not useful right now.

Might do the same here.
Funny thing, the next time I looked in on them, half of them had gone to the other side.
rs...? Nah.
I tend to promote underdogs, like Ukrainians, democracy-fighters, human rights work, scholars, wits and wags.
I'm on BlueSky to learn from others, not showoff. Bottom line: It's ok if I have a small following.

Those get auto-blocked
😉
Back half of your Weapon X run is deeply underrated
I want to make some tongue-in-cheek clout-chasing joke here but, nah, it wouldn't work.
