If I could blame one journalistic tic for the mess we're in, it's regarding random posts on social media as indicative of Democratic campaign strategy.

Wild to me that the dominant reaction on here seems to be that this is bad journalism because it treats a Trump voter as a human. I'm not a strategist but if you belong to a party that wants to win elections, shouldn't you regard folks like this as part of your next coalition instead of the enemy?

That tic infuriates me so gd much
Yeah, normie ass centrists
Here's why I'm okay with insulting people mad at Trump voters and showing no sympathy for them.
GOP has their own separate media ecosystem that they pump billions into. Dems are relying on mainstream media instead of buying themselves a fucking bullhorn.
But as for your claim that Bluesky is a lefty water cooler where criticism is not allowed.... I feel like that's a take you'd probably mock if it came from someone else. Disagreeing with people is also what social media is for!
Did you get orders from Bezos to put this garbage out? Like what are you talking about?
If you voted for him you're either in support of far right authoritarian policies or you're politically ignorant to the point of being unclassifiable on any kind of spectrum.
If I criticize you, that's just normal disagreement and debate.
If you criticize me, that's oppression and you think I shouldn't be allowed to speak.
Respectfully, it seems that not only is no one making you use this metric but indeed they are saying you shouldn’t
who in god's name picked this guy to be dem congress leader?? every time he speaks he's channeling william shatner slowly plodding through tenuously memorized lines
His base ate it up
But hey, Harris’s 90 day campaign’s messaging wasn’t clear or whatever. Oh, and she laughs weird 🙄
Second, are random Republicans ever rude online? Surely the same standard should apply.
It doesn't help that the subjects rarely seem to indicate any larger sense of accountability or wrongdoing - just that they're sad it impacted THEM.
Maybe the best answer is both, because those groin-shots do help lighten the mood!
Where were the pieces on non-Trump voters, and where are the pieces now on how non-Trump voters are suffering?
The weakness of the left is their ability to be understood, the right doesn't have this problem. It’s all slurs and bad grammar.
But also I think it's less glee and more bafflement about all of these stories of ppl blindly believing Trump and then being shocked that they're affected
Are you capable of understanding that people’s emotions and their actions needn’t 100% correspond?
Get me the quotes of a dozen people the MAGAs interact with on a daily basis and see whether the sympathetic profile holds up.
people don't understand why billionaires should pay high taxes. The left takes it as doctrine, the right thinks: why am I or Musk obligated to subsidize some old lady in a care home
Nailing this will chg the game, the rules, & the bd upon which we play
I’m going in
I mean we have Republican members of Congress saying slurs *in Congress*
So obviously it's the Dem party who needs to show more empathy for other voters.
things that affect elections: bluesky posts
things that don't affect elections: the new york times headlines, words & framing choices
I think this also swings the other way: treating random posts on social media as ANY kind of meaningful political strategy, incl. from rando rightwing bad actors
See: NYT consistently elevating Chris Fucking Rufo
Conservatives have almost no criticism of actual leftist policy and instead base entire tirades on what a tankie furry on twitter posted with 4 likes.
An individual Democrat can express as much ire and malice toward conservatives as they want, because they're not leading the party or strategizing any campaign.
And...that's not a realistic strategy to hold Democrats to

Pundit Reaction: That's not the median Trump voter. Most voters are just focused on taxes and keeping prices down.
Left-wing Post: I hate anyone who doesn't put pronouns in their bios!
Pundit Reaction: This official policy by the Dems is why they keep losing!
