I would say the Republicans have done a very good job of convincing these folks that they are hated by elite liberals. Unfortunately, I do think that prejudice exists to some extent and you can find evidence of it. However, it still doesn't justify voting for Trump and his policies.

To be fair even in France I had many colleagues who did not ask for their vacation days. The reason is that they try to get them paid (twice, since they are already paid!) because they feel like they are losing money when they are not working. Many also use their vacations to work a second job.
