Agree on the writing part, but AI images can be very empowering. I've paid artists to create images and after weeks or months of back and forth the most I've ended up with is an acceptable image. I just created my best book cover yet in only a few hours using downloaded AI Images and Photoshop 9.

Training an AI model to produce probabilistically likely results is a great way to generate stale, hackneyed output. The better it gets at doing what it does, the less accidental surprise it will produce. It is quite simply engineered to be dull.

They churn out a million "proof of concepts" where it does a rubbish job of something and imply it might get good at it one day (it won't) instead of hitting the ceiling the technology has (it will).

I agree with @turfster.bsky.social. LLMs are slightly worse at coding than they are at writing. Often wrong, often using horribly inefficient algorithms. It’s maybe slightly better than googling “How do I do x?”and then blindly pasting in code you find and don’t understand from some rando.

Even the code this garbage usually spits out (that proponents have *proudly* shown me) is anywhere from "subtly wrong" to "100% doesn't do shit" for non-trivial "my first computer language class" exercise code, so, you know.

I have coder friends who swear by it. I’ve found it can create the regex function I can’t remember successfully but I wouldn’t try it on anything at any greater scale. So. You may be right; I just don’t know. what I do know is, it can’t write for shit, anyone who says different is taking the piss

I think that because programming is, to a certain extent, language, LLMs are about as good at stringing code together as they are at stringing sentences together. Like, only in the most basic and unintentional sense.
