THEY'RE GOING TO ISSUE PERMANENT VISA BANS TO TRANS VISITORS TO THE US.

This isn't just for athletes. The directive as stated applies to all visa applications made by trans folks and declare it material fraud to use a different gender marker on applications.

yep, which is really tough, because so many of our collaborations are tied in with our US colleagues.

We have a conference there in June (Cali.) which is already in the works, etc. so a bit hard to change course now.

But organizing committees should factor this into decision-making in future.

I'm assuming they can refuse any passports with a Gender anything other than M/F. That's fairly easy. They would likewise refuse entry to anyone whose appearance doesn't match the gender on the passport.
Two countries already do not accept X gender. Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
I do not support this!

Border Entry Restrictions are looser than internal discrimination laws. They can do things at the border they could never do anywhere else.

The US *was* a huge country for science. They could undo all of this tomorrow, but what serious academic project would dare count on it not lighting right back off again? Any research or planning that takes longer than 4 years would be better served in a more stable nation until decades have passed.
