From a distance it would ‘almost’ appear that possibly Checo might know where some RB ‘bodies’ are buried….only thing I can think of that could stop thr RB axe from swinging.

Agree it’s the money and sponsors he brings in. Other drivers have “bought” their seats, it’s not really a surprise in F1, this is just on another level.

True. There's definitely something brewing, I just refuse to believe they might keep him another year. Giving Tsunoda or Lawson a shot surely makes more sense than letting the team results suffer for another season.

It's a business decision rather than a sporting one. He cost them around $18m from the constructors prize money, but brings $30m-$40m in sponsorship. Not to mention it keeps the Verstappen camp happy having a number 2 that the team won't focus on.

I'm sure there's at least some truth to that, but keeping a driver who offers little in the way of performance doesn't feel like a very "Red Bull" approach. I would absolutely love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting to understand what's really going on.

He's struggled for performances for some time, it's the none redbull approach which for me says it's more financial/business, as well as the obvious power struggle within Redbull as well.

When sponsors basically pay him, and half of Verstappens wage, to keep his seat how can they kick him out? They should move him to an ambassador role where he'll still drive F1 cars but for events and sponsors, rather than for races.

Fair point, in the end keeping Verstappen happy is probably their primary goal.

An ambassadorial role is surely the dream for Red Bull: they keep the contact with his sponsors, have someone recognisable for PR events and get to test out a younger prospect.

A payout would make sense as a reason for the delay—they surely can’t be entertaining the idea of keeping him on. That said, the theory about his sponsorship revenues is starting to feel a bit more plausible...

A lack of alternatives is one of the only reasons I can think of for keeping him, but it’s not exactly convincing. Surely it’s better to give one of their younger prospects a chance than stick with someone who’s proven to underperform.
