Hey there folks. I have three kids ranging from high teens to single digits that want me to DM a campaign. I've been using 5e 2014 for years now. When I began DMing for my two, which admittedly are closer in age than your three- so maybe a bit easier, I got them both to tell me things they definitely did and did not want to see in the game. I also got them to create 2 NPCs that would appear, but I didn't tell them when. That really helped

Didn't think of the NPC idea, I'll have to write that down. We started a "Session 0" and I did cover a few things like permadeath (absolutely not they said) and blood content. My middle child is squeamish to the sight. My oldest wants all of the violence and my littlest wants a story.

A tricky three to balance. I have to make sure all the baddies my two fight have no redeeming features or they feel too bad about fighting them. They did love it when they recognised the NPCs they'd created. Hope all of you enjoy your game 💪

My younger two do not want any animal killing for hunt or otherwise. So the idea is the ranger is going to hunt monsters for some kind of resources.

Nice. That then leads into the awesome question of what resources can you get from different monsters without killing them?
