It is honestly almost impressive that Trump has gotten so many people to just go along with pretending m tariffs work in this made-up way. It’s not like it’s some obscure technical point. It’s as if he had a bunch of people saying yeah, of COURSE dogs lay eggs.

Commerce Secretary (and crypto booster) Howard Lutnick said on Fox News that Trump wants to replace the IRS with an “External Revenue Service” that would be funded by tariff revenue. “His goal is to abolish the IRS and let all the outsiders pay,” Mr. Lutnick said.
