Kids of today will never understand the pure horror of hearing their dad ask why his documentaries that he was saving for his day off have been taped over with cartoons π¬

It's weird how the trivial slights can cut the deepest, even many years later. As a callow young teen, I lent a girl I liked seven or eight LPs. They came back in such a state, my interest in her just vanished. I mean, how do you get talcum powder on vinyl? I presume it was talc, at least...
A friend lent me the first Beastie Boys lp, my dog ate part of the cover, I felt so guilty I bought him a new lp without telling him and still have the dog eaten one. I would have been mortified to give it back in a state
That's excellent. I hope you are still friends, even though you have a terrible secret...π She who will remain nameless just gave me the records back, and all in the wrong sleeves. I was crushed. In a pre High Fidelity world, I now see I was sort of playing the part of Rob Gordon.
Same! I'll never forget my older brother taping a fucking fishing show over the final episode of The Prisoner which I hadn't yet watched. Consequently it was well over a decade before I eventually got to see it.
Our worst offender was the dog ! Would tap it for attention when everyone was watching telly and wipe stuff off despite the 'Do not tape over' sticker.
It depended on the day but I leaned heavily to ITV⦠I watched Fun House and Woof!
I loved BBC Saturday mornings though with Thundercats & Live & Kicking
Much as I love the internet, I miss the mysteries of life that used to exist before it. When something was gone, that was it. It's all getting a bit too Jurassic Park
Where did conspiracy theorists get their conspiracies from then? There never used to be this many conspiracy theories, and I know a lot of people don't want you to know why...
I had my own tapes for that very reason. Iβd get fresh ones for Christmas, a three pack of video tapes was so exciting. All the things I could fill them with. :)
Itβs almost unbelievable that VHS tapes were a really popular Christmas pressie. We used to put out stacks in Dec in Boots, and theyβd just disappear. Crazy.
I used to get in trouble for taping over things but not rewinding the tape to the start first, as if that was the bad bit. Imagining my parents sitting down with a bottle of wine to watch a drama they'd taped and then 40 minutes in it's suddenly some junk one of their kids has recorded, perfect
