You saw it here first, ladies and gentlemen. Today’s LAPD Commission agenda. Still not posted online.
Among the important things being discussed:
Officers who shot and killed mentally ill man Yong Yang on 5/2/24 face potential “DISCIPLINE/ DISMISSAL/ RELEASE/ PUBLIC EMPLOYEE
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION”
A virtual reality training program for LAPD officers is being considered, which would be “arena-sized,” and located in the gymnasium at the LA Police Academy.
Regarding Yong Yang, the man who was shot by LAPD officers in the midst of a mental health crisis:
Yesterday would have been his birthday. His mother, father, and brother spoke about him at the commission meeting today. The commission will discuss his case in closed meeting today.
Previous post needed a little more background. LAPD currently runs a 5,000 square foot virtual reality training system within their gymnasium. They are discussing a more permanent home.
The system was started with a $1.6 million grant from the Los Angeles Police Foundation.
Some of the commissioners have run through at least several trainings themselves; some discussion of Vice President virtually assisting in apprehending a suspect that virtually hit an officer with a baseball bat.
