And is closing offices

Now-the system is crashing

Recipients can’t access their accounts

And can’t even speak to anyone by phone-or in person

I visited our Social Security office yesterday. Knowledgeable and efficient staff who said they did have not heard anything but “things have definitely slowed down”.
Told me to advocate with congressman for SS.

We haven't actually taken from SS to fund wars. That is long standing propaganda... I may have repeated as well until informed. SS has always invested through Treasury Bonds sold and backed by the Government. Think a CD in the bank. They sold bonds to support war efforts.

The key point is that staffing is less than one percent of the budget for SS. So cutting all of this staffing and breaking the system results in less than 1/10th of one percent savings. The breaking is the point, not the savings.

YES. It is unconscionable to treat Americans like this There are family caregivers, caring for seniors , who depend on that income. Many caregivers, predominantly WOMEN, give up their careers, their income, to care for elder parents. Every PENNY counts.

Thank you! I received benefits from the time my father died when I was 14 until I finished college at 22, and from the time I was 16 I worked part-time until I graduated. Without those benefits, I would not have been able to attend college at all--and we're talking a state school, NOT Ivy League.

Today is the anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire that killed 147 young girls and boys who jumped to their deaths or died in the fire. Thanks to Frances Perkins we have not only labor laws but Social Security because of the response to this horrific event and the Great Depression.
