Just used Granola.ai to transcribe and take notes at a meeting and its transcription was radically better than Otter.ai, which I've been paying for the past two years but is still only so-so. Worth a look for journalists (first 25 transcriptions are free, then $10 a month, cheaper than Otter) - ThreadSky

Every time I talk about some random topics on Teams at work I sometimes get YouTube recommendations on that topic on my personal account shortly after. Aren't these kind of services literally selling very accurate breakdowns of interest of their users to FB/Google etc. to target ads better?

Is it just me or is the act of taking notes less about documenting and more about taking important information and capturing it to the memory vault? Having used Otter I find it doesn’t help me remember key points as well as writing them down does.

Does granola do in-person speaker diarization? It is the only reason I use Otter. If all you care about is transcription and not the summaries btw, you can use google recorder or Tactiq for free (Tactiq caps at 10/month, but you can export to google docs and delete from Tactiq to restore free slots)

Yeah, I think that is the major reason why I used to use Otter (shifted to google recorder for this now, they have speaker labels now). Granola, Tactiq and others are great for online meetings otherwise. And if they are something I can record, and need to process later, I end up using MacWhisper.

@jordi.bsky.social does plan to add speaker diarization to macwhisper too, but unlike granola/tactiq, it needs to record first -- then transcribe, rather than work as an extension on the browser.

How are you able to determine the relative quality of each tool? Are people going back and listening to the meetings to determine the accuracy of the transcription and summary?

I tried to install it yesterday after hearing about it on the vergecast. Disappointed that I had to use a google workspace account to log in & it wouldn’t see my work exchange calendar.
