Along with all the other bad shit, I’m thinking about bullying and kids. Insta just announced a bunch of supposed safeguards. If content policies and protections are relaxing, I can’t see how that doesn’t make all Meta platforms even more toxic and treacherous for kids.

I think this is the beginning of the end for Meta or at least Facebook. The world is going to sh*t, people are going to figure out they need a new place to regroup, and someone will eventually build a better platform because truth and actual free speech really do matter.

I've been saying for years that FB is just too poorly designed to be as important as it is. It's garbage at doing the basic functions of a profile or search. Its only value is the network effect of being the thing that already exists.

This is truly frightening stuff. I live in a small suburb where a lot of people use Facebook to share information about what’s happening. It feels like the only recourse is to leave Facebook & Meta platforms. Do you see any other way make them change their mind?

Nope. I know many people who don't use FB so much anymore for personal/friends & fam stuff - but still find it useful for local matters/civic engagement/lifemin as you say.

But the only thing that will teach Lord Zuck is when he runs out of eyeballs attached to wallets upon whom he can force ads.
