one does not preclude the other.. the Main social media AI's are not controlled by government.. they are controlled by Billionaires.. Deep Seek is controlled by the Fascist Chinese government
This really should tell you the level of knowledge that people on blue sky actually gather about something before writing hot takes. I downloaded it and it had no problems telling me anything.
I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to say here, but I would definitely suggest doing research on your own. That's the best way to learn these days. Just think critically and look at multiple sources.
Here: the Ocean food chain is broken.... I have known that for 10 years... where are the headlines about it? Why don't you know that? Maybe some of us know what we see..
I've seen this claim like, I don't know, dozens of times on my newsfeed today already, and it just shows that I guess people aren't really spending any time really verifying their claims but passing on rabble. First question. First answer. Maybe not use the version that's based in China?
so they are manipulating the data available by country.. makes you think they could be manipulating the data for everyone... and that you just don't know it... you know an AI looks at your entire posting history and says exactly what it wants you want to hear
I run multiple LLM models locally. I'm not really sure what you're saying about it looking through my post history. They reply to what you tyoe. People do absolutely manipulate data everywhere. Nobody should ever blindly trust one source of information.
This is why we can't just demonize AI, but we need to educate ourselves how it's used because I feel like the average person on here is extremely illiterate about how they work because of, I guess, stubbornness. Scary being on the side that refuses to learn new tech. We need people who get it too..
reading your posts i get the impression that you are Intimately familiar with AI. too familiar. I'd like someone to explain the last election where 60% of the younger folks thought the US is in recession and there is Higher crime.. I can: Mass and social media Manipulation thru AI and Algorithms
I guess Trump isn't the negotiator he claims to be pledging $500 billion for Stargate and the Chinese did it for $6 million. And what does this say about Musk and Doge?
I actually got it to write a non-rhyming poem (after a few tries). I never tried with GPT-4 but I tried over and over again with GPT-3 and it just did not compute the concept of a poem that didn’t rhyme (with the understandable exception of Haiku).
I kept thinking about a book from last decade while listening to this one. Curious if either of you have read AI Superpowers… or AI 2041 for that matter? ;)
Great pod today.
Would be great to hear @kaifulee.bsky.social on the pod soon.
Also it’s a bit odd that it came out so soon after the announcement of Stargate and the (formerly) Twitter spat between Altman and the N@zi shadow pres.
Hard at work I see. Hmmm, DeepSeek...don't you mean the Broligarchy in Deep Shit? And I thought the news today was nothing but depressing cruel tidbits, dragging me to the lower rings of Hell. This really cheers me up.
Haven't had time to listen yet (skimmed the transcript), but DeepSeek has been known since end of year 2024 as you mentioned. The market selloff was really triggered by surprise Colombian tariffs. Wall street media trying to cover for more tariffs to come
Yeah, big moment. Until the next moment, and the next, and the next, and oh the stocks need a bump again GTP 6.24 is here to save us, bubble bubble bubble. Billionaires and tech bros gotta pretend they’re omniscient and not just flailing around making guesses like the rest of us.
I honestly don't understand why you say the tech was ripped of US companies. First Google invents Transformers, then OpenAI uses them (and basically all our data - because data on the internet is in public domain ;D), then they use Transformers (like OpenAI, Anthropic, ...) with some RL ...
And yes, I honestly don't understand, not aiming for some old school flame wars ;D. Also, thank you and @kevinroose.com for all that you do - it's informative, fresh and funny at the same time ;D
So sad to hear that all OpenAI’s work on an LLM was ripped off by a bunch of Chinese AI researchers. I wonder why OpenAI’s researchers didn’t think to rip off someone else work. Oh wait…
I mean China created a more powerful AI than the US with exponential less money invested and assisted with collaboration. Reminder that private research always fails to planned economies. Collaboration over competition
Thanks for the emergency pod.
A few questions I haven’t seen asked.
Why was it released? For free?
Does it has the approval of the Chinese Government?
Does it collect our data when we use it?
Did High-Flyer short Nvidia before releasing it?
It was a research based project, there's no profit incentive, which is the answer to your first question. As for the fourth, the online version may collect data, but it is fully possible to run the model locally, without an internet connection if you have suitable hardware.
Thanks. This was interesting. I liked your point that they wouldn't have been able to do it so cheap if it hadn't been for all the other work done already.
Comments
it probably works because people are dumdums

Thanks for make it.
The US economy didn't need to be up any time soon, did it?
