I remember reading a sample of the Epic in high school for an assignment and then reading the rest of it for a separate report. I genuinely cried over it and ended up yelling at a school administrator for not making the entire work more available.
Oh, uhhh, love to cut in on the gloom parade here to happily inform you that the Epic of Gilgamesh specifically is an epic that is ever growing as we continue to uncover more and more fragments. The version I learned in the 2010s is outdated by now.
