I keep waiting to see that energy - that amount of outrage and urgency - finally take hold in our protest movement now.
Non-violence is an important element of protest, but a protest isn’t a protest if you have to get permission. Then it’s just a walk with some friends carrying signs.
But it’s still laughter and Kumbaya to many. We’re not even seeing the same energy we saw with Occupy, and this is a total fascist takeover, not a banking collapse.
*Kent was conservative MW university - when the unpopular war protests reached that deep into a generally pro-gov't MW, tolerance for war was getting old.
*Nick Saban - college football's most successful coach, played football at Kent, called tanks/soldiers on campus "traumatic".
A young woman from Pittsburgh was one of those killed. The following year, friends and I wore black armbands in school that day, to commemorate their murders.
I just want to thank you for posting this today. Star Wars is fun, but I hate to see May 4th be only thought of as “Star Wars” day. We must remember events like Kent State- especially now. Thank you.
Exactly. Every country has its great and it's appalling aspects and we'd be better off facing these realities and dealing with them well, rather than taking either the extreme narcissism or the self-hate pathway forward.
