However watching the Dems do exactly that during the joint session speech after Al Green was removed makes it hard for a lot of people to have any courage, when their leaders abandon their principles is real-time on national TV.
I know for some of yall the state obeying no law except what they can get away with is terrifying but it has in fact always been that way and those of us who come from the wrong place or whose bodies look or work "wrong" have been living under this regime forever so CUT THIS SHIT OUT
It is scary and horrible and it's how so many of us and our communities have been living for so fucking long welcome to the struggle but don't come in here at the 25th hour chicken littling your fucking head off
The law has always been a nice story the state tells about itself, and a series of guidelines and best practices determined by those in power to breed the least resistance, or based on giving in to old demands and compromises from previous struggles, but IT WAS NEVER ABOUT JUSTICE
and yes when the state openly names this fact about itself it becomes scarier it becomes more dangerous it widens the scope of its targets and I know it feels scary af to get that target on your back welcome to the only game in town let's get to work together, but listen and learn you're brand new
I know it's scary that what kept people safe was polite fiction and historical compromise and you've been weak, disempowered, oppressed and on the cutting block this whole fucking time, we really tried to explain that to yall and you scoffed so the least you can do is self-reflect on your instincts
One thing to learn to do is to distinguish people being frustrated and angry and non-peaceful from people being malicious and cruel. The fascists are happy to smile and wink while they slide the knife in between your ribs. Whiteness strategically equates tone/politeness with morality and intention.
In Gaza, we know that surrender is betrayal; we will not accept any justification for violations of our sovereignty, and we will remain steadfast no matter how hard they try to break our resolve.
The real challenge is to refuse to surrender prematurely; the courage to cross small boundaries makes all the difference. Don’t let the government’s fear of violating sovereignty hinder your resolve.
Sure, as long as we also allow for a difference between “obeying” and protecting yourself if you’re in acute danger. There are a LOT of pple with a LOT of privilege that should be stepping up on behalf of those who cannot. I don’t want to ask of vulnerable folks when there are plenty of- 1/2
I am a vulnerable person who is doing things and I am sick of the argument for quietism and surrender being couched within a righteous analysis of danger and privilege and I respect my audience enough to know that my encouragement and analysis isn't in fact making them do anything
