Now that the threat of nuclear war is once again topical, I recommend the U.K. film Threads from 1984, about people living through the dropping of the bomb. I noticed it was available on the Internet Archive.

Really enjoyed (if that’s the word for it) the grittiness and realism of the first half of it.
I also just discovered and watched WHEN THE WIND BLOWS, which affecting in whole other horrifying ways because it seems to echo Trump voters justifying their vote.
If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things—praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music (...)
