The Elizabeth Peters Amelia Peabody mysteries. First book is Crocodile on the Sandbank. Written by an Egyptologist from the U of Chicago. Charming. First book sets it all up, they get funnier as you go.

One of my favorite periods! Judith Tarr has 3 excellent Egypt books, Pillar of Fire, The Shepherd Kings & Throne of Isis. The Twelth Transforming by Pauline Gedge is gr8, too. If you don't mind a BIG book, "Memoirs of Cleopatra" by Marg. George is another gr8 one.
