“State data shows nearly 90% of students enrolled in Ohio’s voucher program this year are not low-income qualified, a dramatic turnabout from the program’s stated initial purpose.”

Yeah the news touched on this as DeWine’s budget made sure to shaft all of the public schools! Once again it’s a game to eliminate some from paying their fair share! 😞
Reminder: For decades, the Republican school voucher system was ALWAYS intended to reimburse the wealthy, whose children go to private schools, for the tax dollars collected from them to fund public education for the rabble.
The ***last**** thing these voucher programs were designed to do was benefit anyone but the wealthy private school attendees population. Discounts on their posh education to defund the neighborhood schools - THAT is the goal.
Ohioan here 🙋🏻♀️ This has been a scam forever run by republicans & their donors. Kasich was found to have made money off of it years back when he was gov but the beltway ignored the story. Now that they’re emboldened, they won’t need to hide what they’re doing by feigning care for low income families.
Ohioan here and it DID start off for low income families. I was shocked at the time my husband and I were paying 15k/year for tuition and a low income family was paying $1,500/yr. Not to mention we were paying property taxes in a district our children never attended. 💯
Right. That only makes sense. I was poor as fuck. My daughter went to CSG for high school and the most I paid was only $5k a year. Because poor kids deserve a good education, too. I never thought about it but I was paying taxes in another district. I’m happy that the schools here got the funding.
In 8th grade there was a gun found in a locker. It terrified her because of the many shootings around the country. She was exceedingly intelligent and the school system was getting rid of accelerated classes and college prep. I’d have sold a limb to get her the education she deserved. We got lucky.
Wanting the halt of indiscriminate attacks on women and children by the IDF doesn’t make anyone an anti-Semite.
And I’m sick of these claims of widespread attacks upon Jewish students with -0- specifics ascribed, like names of attackers, victims, dates, locations….
Private school families are more well off. You need that lifestyle of having a parent with a car who can drop you off and pick you up everyday from school in another town.
But they sold school vouchers as something a lot of low income kids and families would be utilizing.
Well we knew that now in my area there are some private schools that offer there own vouchers/scholarships that are aimed at helping exceptionally academic lower income students attend their school. I'm not sure if those vouchers are actually going to lower income students,I doubt they are.
Now in talking to some young people that attend private school they state private school isn't all that some people make it to be and they would prefer to go to public school where it is more diverse and more accepting and more freedom and some got their parents to put them in public school.

Who believed that?
Vouchers were originally designed to destroy public education. Everybody knows that.
They don't really expect anyone to actually believe them. That's the media's job.
