A quiet revolution is taking place at Kyoto’s ryokans, Japan’s traditional inns. Many are ditching the two meals a day that ryokans traditionally serve. The driver? Inbound tourists who aren’t used to authentic Japanese food.

Insane. Trying local food is a huge part of tourism to any place! How can you possibly say you've been somewhere unless you eat like the locals do? Utter madness!
this makes me feel kind of sad. i understand they have to keep with the times, but something rubs me wrong about businesses needed to adapt to tourists’ tastes. feels like they’re giving some part of the authentic experience away just to stay afloat.
What about the (Eastern) European models that seem to prominently feature in marketing for this kinds of tourism -- are they used to authentic Japanese food?
