I've been thinking about taking some firearm safety training and getting a handgun, what are some things you would recommend to beginners, and what would be a relatively budget friendly handgun for someone starting out?

I’m a Ruger fan. Their Security 9 or Security 380 (which is what I have) are pretty affordable. And they’re gentle on the hands if you don’t have good grip strength.

Or, you can browse online for Glocks that were trade ins from law enforcement (Glocks are also really good!!)

I got to fire my AR-15 for the first time last weekend and it felt great! I wasn’t imagining me shooting at someone, just the paper, and feeling that awesome power kick back on my shoulder area. Catharsis is a perfect word for that sensation ^^

Never thought I'd buy a gun before, but ended up getting myself a Ruger SR1911 in January for defense/range practice. Very pretty, learning how to shoot was kinda fun. It was scary walking into a range for the first time though with how loud it can get. ^^;

Totally getcha when it comes to ranges being loud and intimidating. As long as you have excellent range safety officers, it’s totally fine! I personally wear earplugs and then put earmuffs over it for max protection to me ears. Super recommended if you haven’t :3

There is a healthy middle ground between "none of them" and "I will shoot whoever looks at me funny!"

Like, I really enjoy target shooting!

Self-defense, I'm not sure I'd trust myself to do so, but it is a viable option.
