Mike Ness's two solo albums are even more straight-up cowpunk. I always recommend them to people who say they don't like country. Same goes for Lone Justice, Rank & File, Dwight Yoakam, Foster & Lloyd (as much Athens/Raleigh jangle pop as Texas country).

They've been country-adjacent for 30 years. Covered Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Kitty Wells. Mike Ness's solo records are as much Hank Sr. honky-tonk as punk.

A lot of the early 1980s SoCal punk bands grew up listening to their parents and grandparents Buck Owens and Merle Haggard records. I'm an East Coast guy, so I never knew that, bt it is similar to the Dropkick Murphys and the Tossers with the Clancy Brothers.
