when i was younger going thru what gwen is, i practically lived at my friends houses especially if their parents actually seemed like they cared so i assume she's gonna pop up here more often lol
My grandparents on my father's side were this for a lot of my dad's friends. They had four kids of their own, took in Nan's sister's three kids, so seven kids all of a sudden, but always had a pot of something on the stove and a bed for anyone who needed it.
This is how we were brought up in the 70's and 80's. If i had a friend over, come dinner time my mom just either expected them to eat with us, or made sure they weren't going home hungry. Same when I went to my friends' houses. We always made extra in case of what my mom called "strays". :-)
it's like the Newfie bread philosophy of why the traditional NFLD bread loaf is 3 big bun sections. One section for today, one section for tomorrow, and one section for your neighbour who might not have the time or the ingredients to make bread.
and i heard that bread philosophy growing up in Corner Brook, and my friends out in St John's knew of it as well. I thought it was an island-wide thing.
i know Deer Lake well! we used to go to the beach/park there a few times during the summers. Our friends/relatives hated to see us coming, cuz my dad apparently always brought rain with him for the day! LOL They were fine, though, once he pulled out his guitar and started singing/playing by the fire
My mom is like this. She found out a friend of mine, a single dad with two kids was struggling, so she went lit and bought a whole bunch of new dishes, cookware, and appliances for him.
The whole Gwen comic really hits home with me, because that's sort of the reality I'm living. I don't wanna get into it too much on the Internet, but I do wanna thank you for being able to understand what it's like for people like us.
I feel you homie. This is one of the reasons I wasn’t home very often as a kid was because my friends parents were giving me the support and care I needed.
Found families are wonderful things, I hope you’re finding the family you need.

Try not to cry
Cry anyway
Shame she's gone and other people are still here.
And now I crave some homemade lassie bread.
I was born unwanted and grew up feeling like everyone was mad at me for being alive.
One place where I was appreciated would have made a world of difference to me.
