Saw the first part on Reddit then second here. So sorry you’re going through this, you’re a great artist and you make such interesting and provoking comics, keep up the amazing work.
My dad’s always been like that as well. But I saw a different side when my bother (coincidentally named Jeff) passed a few years ago. It was hard to see in a way, because he’s always been the strong silent type that everyone leaned on. But on the other hand, it was good to see him able to open up
I hope you’re in a better place because of it. I didn’t inherit the ‘strong silent’ thing from my dad…so while I’m more open with my feelings I do sometimes wish I could be better at being the rock to lean on for my own family. Everyone needs someone to be strong for them sometimes
It can be so unpredictable how we react to deaths of those we don’t know well, or even at all. Sometimes it’s totally unrelated things going on in your own life that just make it that much harder, even if you can’t place why. Good time to check in with yourself either way
Used to think the adults in my life were better about coping, turns out I'm pretty sure they were just better at bottling it up and are paying for it dearly in their elderly years. Doing my best to follow that cycle.

But even the toughest of Dads needs to breakdown, too. There is strength in rebuilding and returning to the fight.
Best thing I ever did for myself.
fantastic comic
Good or bad, they've shaped their world. Just our choice if we seek to grow in our ways from it, or bury in the past.
