"Those are real facts on the ground"?! This is pure Russian propaganda. No-one had talked seriously about Ukraine joining NATO - & even if they had, that would not have given Russia justification to invade. Disgusting.

If there were conversations about NATO they started 20 years ago and as part of a cross-party democratic Declaration in 2006:
"To resolve the question regarding NATO membership via a referendum, which is to take place after Ukraine completes every step necessary for it."
