Potentially, yes. For example, I think pupils who really struggled to follow along while someone read might well experience greater CL as a result. But this is just hypothesis and not something I've seen in the research, which tends to be done with relatively competent readers.

Do you have thoughts or observations (or is there research) on whether comprehension and/or understanding differ when the text is fiction or non-fiction?

Personally, find it cuts both ways. With video instructions, sometimes have to replay several times, but more often bored rigid waiting for the useful bits, even speeded up.
If comparing reading to reading + narration I'd expect either no effect or a small negative effect from adding the narration.
The short version is that this is not an area where neat conclusions can be drawn currently.
