While I'll agree with the amount of garbage I've seen people share from that stuff, I do have to say crappy takes have been around for a while amplified. Just look at History Channel in the 2000s, that stuff was a mixture of conspiracy theories, 2012 scaremedia, and indestructible panzer propaganda.

I've heard that as criticism of some new YT "kids shows", compared with more traditional ones. The chaos on YT kids changes frames like every 5 seconds, where the traditional stuff (think sesame street or even bluey) is much slower paced. Think there was some big research done on that too.

I think continuity of message matters too. Like if it’s disjointed editing with one through thought it might be less detrimental than seeing dozens of different message themes quickly cut ad infinitum a la TikTok. Makes me wonder if the algorithm is setup to purposefully cause damage too.

Not too sure how purposely it is set up, but we can take YT's Algorithm into play, where creators found out things like YT face thumbnails will drive views. Might be similar too with a dramatic text field on the screen the could suck folks in.

History Channel, as tine went on, IMO had become increasingly problematic with the "history" it was teaching (never mind the "panzer propaganda" of the 90s, as if a TKS with a 20mm didn't take out 3 of those in like 5 minutes on like the 3rd day of WWII, and the Soviets lol'd at the Pz.IV's "armor")

Loose Change was successful enough with a broad enough audience that EVERYBODY went into overdrive debunking all of its claims. RFK Jr has his debunkers, but it’s not like discrediting the guy was next on the national agenda, like it was for Loose Change.
