Was this the depot for the Joint Omnibus Company? Huddersfield Corporation ran out of the Thornton Lodge depot if I am correct. Or was it the other way around?

Fraid I don't know off the top of my head. Great Northern Street tramway depot was in use by the late 1880s and was initially open to the elements. There was a smaller depot on St Thomas' Road by the early 1900s and then a much larger one nearby that was built in the 1920s.

According to the brochure that Huddersfield Corporation put out in 1983, the depot at Longroyd Bridge was opened in July 1921. Following that, the depot at Ray Street (Market) was used for rebuilding, repair and servicing of tramcars. The storage there was for the early bus fleet.

I had a quick look in the newspaper archives but couldn't spot anything which said which depot was used by which fleet, although there was a mention of a Leeds Road Depot too (I think Arriva took that one over but I might be misremembering what I read).

"used to give..." (oh for an edit button!). Enid deposited the collection after Gordon's death and generously relinquished all copyrights over their work. She also paid for the "Discovering Old Huddersfield" series of books to be digitised so they could be made available online for free 🥂
