I was being generous to Inaba because I remembered that W101 and Bayo both underperformed expectations, but you're absolutely right. It's bizarre that Platinum never did another Nier game.

Even if it wasn't a Nier game, after Automata's incredible success you'd think they would be locked in with other companies falling over themselves to work with them, but somehow that didn't happen at all.
There's rumors that Platinum burned a LOT of bridges by constantly funneling money from their contracts and putting it into the studio (that is to say, pulling a Gearbox). Allegedly this is what sunk Scalebound and Platinum's involvement with Granblue Re:Link.
It’s Yoko Taros baby after all. And a Square Enix IP. Platnum were just a great partner for the project. And Square had their own push for Live Service
