Oh dang, I didn’t know that part either. I respect the heck out of Heisig and WaniKani and I credit them both with a lot of my Japanese language growth, but the downside is that I miss a lot of this history!

Hecks yeah, I've been on Wanikani for a while. I'll have to check out Heisig.
And tbf, I specifically looked up that component etymology, that wasn't one I already knew.

Oh dang, that looks cool, and similar too! My college used Heisig’s Remembering the Kanji but I discovered WaniKani years later. WaniKani isn’t perfect but it’s more my style. I prefer learning meanings and readings concurrently. That makes guessing 音読み tremendously easier for me!
