As an IT guy, I find AI to be the gimmickiest piece of shit at the moment. I'll be surprised if it's still a thing in two years time.

I reckon it will find it's place as a tool. Particularly in places like creating boilerplate marketing, etc. That may be enough to put some people out of work.
I've used it to create code. Then I needed to debug it to get it right. But then I normally need to debug things I haven't done before.

Agreed. Co-pilot in GitHub gets you quite a ways along, but as you point out it's not 100% and quite a bit of additional work is required to make it do exactly what you'd prompted it for.
