Amazon has flipped the switch, and download is no longer available from the website. However, at least as of now, I am still able to deliver the books to my physical Kindle, plug it in, and, ahem, back up the books. I suspect I will need to prevent OS updates. - ThreadSky

Yeah I backed all mine up Tuesday. For me I downloaded an older version of Kindle to PC so that they were in the AZw or whatever extension. Rumor is the Mac version is locked down. This is all the mess. We buy the books they're ours. Why do they have to make it difficult.

I have a similar experience when searching for myself on Google. Apparently my first & last name are quite a popular combination for parents and my family clan is bigger than some nations' armies so I've to scroll 10 pages to find myself.

I stopped updating my PW after 2020 when I moved back to Sweden. All my books became unavailable. I was pissed. So as soon as I got back to the US in 2022, I re-enabled, updated, pulled all books off and wrote a script to turn them into pdf. I paid for them. I leave airplane mode permanent.

The only thing that sucks is I don't get covers or highlights. However, I don't use highlights anyway. If the Kindle breaks, I'll buy an unrestricted reader. It's been working fine since 2015 though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will use the web viewer, then rip them to pdf. I already built a thing that attaches to sub session with gecko engine then turns them into pdf. Then I just put the pdfs on. That is how I have been putting books on for the last 2y.

I could probably turn them into epub, or back into awsz format but I am too lazy for that. It works. I can read it.
