If progressives want to win back young men, then they must talk to them and address their needs, instead of constant scolding. All the finger wagging just drives them to Rogan, Peterson, and the Tate brothers. And they DO talk to young men.

Yeah, I like Raywat, but this hit a nerve for a lot of women. We were told our whole life we'd have to work harder and be smarter to make it in male-dominated fields, so we did. Now the boys are being told they'll have to adapt to a changing world and apparently they feel "scolded". OK.

Yeah. I think what many cis straight white men hear when discussing privilege is, "You got to where you are because of your race/gender, not due to hard work", which makes them immediately defensive. (Interestingly, the exact thing they've said about "DEI hires" 🙄)

No. The problem is I sometimes expect people to have the same awareness I do and it can turn people away. These people are human, and susceptible to being drawn into a world view / information space that openly courts them.

Lack of awareness was never the issue. A *refusal* of awareness is the issue. And yes, the open courting of men like Rogan and Vance insisting young men don’t *need* empathy. An easier, more attractive message.

Refering to "asking men to be aware of others." I was a pretty "unjerky" 20 year old and I was still often a jerk. Just saying that young men are young men you wont change that, so its better to think about how we can communicate rather than demanding thicker skins. Sorry if missed your pt.

It’s both. I’m saying there’s been *no shortage* of “how can we communicate better” handwringing but it’s not working because the right-wing white-male-grievance industry is louder, stronger and richer. Young men want to side with the “winner” and don’t see the longterm harm in not evolving 🫤

I think we are trying to find allies based on the wrong argument. We need our own grievance industry based on right wing corruption. Rogan lies about Trump because it's good for Rogan. Young men may not be self aware, but they are smart and they can see through the BS if we let them.
