Bet I could score B+/A- on a test to identify what decade of the 20th Century something happened in - like: Is this photo from the 50s, 60s, or 70s? You'd probably find that easy too, right?
But I'm not sure how well I could distinguish fashion, entertainment or photos from 2004, 2014, or 2024.

This might have something to do with the fact that I turned 25 in 2000. (like, it's just about me getting older and not having time to soak in "the culture" like I had in college.)

Graduated from college in 2000; was in my peak "yes, I will shop in the Juniors section, thx" era & wore a silver Lurex wrap dress & 3" glitter platform heels to commencement.

Worth the numb toes to be 6' from heels to mortarboard that day. 🤣

I was also literally the ONLY person in the Senior Week dorm who knew how to don an academic hood over their robes - I helped like 15 people on my floor bc *their moms* saw how I'd put mine on & fixed a bunch more at the assembly point.

Fashion, OTOH, is cyclical. We're currently in yet another "I lived through this and it sucked the first time 'round, thx" cycle. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is confusing to me, too. I teach undergrads, so I hear people talking about their "retro" fashion for the 90s and 2000s. I recognize some 90s looks, but if people started wearing shoe boxes on their heads and said it was. "2000s Throwback look" I would probably take their word for it.

A few years ago, our (2nd) eldest niece started wearing flannels & Doc Martens bc they'd cycled back "in."

That was the "in" look when I was in high school. (Never managed to get my own Docs, though I did acquire a pair of look-alike Skechers boots in college.)
