I have a hard time believing that the average Trump voter actually voted for anything but Trump himself. He is in power; that is what they voted for. I think their grievances are valid, but I don't believe they actually expect Trump to do anything about it. He certainly didn't in his first term. - ThreadSky

I think their grievances are valid, but I don't believe they actually expect Trump to do anything about it. He certainly didn't in his first term.

Ultimately, I don't believe most people actually think critically, or even just a couple of steps ahead. I think most people don't think at all, if they don't absolutely have to. And the great benefit of any autocrat like Trump is that he obviates the need for thinking among those he rules.

Do sports fans think about the team they support, whether the players are worthy of that support? Or do they just follow a flag, the colors of their team, regardless of who is playing or how? They may gripe about the results or the capabilities of the players, but they're never disloyal to the team.

That's what Republicans are as a political party, what Republican voters are as a bloc. There's a purity to their adherence to their team, regardless of outcome. But it gives those at the top free rein to abuse that loyalty for their own purposes.

Don't look to a truly loyal sports fan to put the interests of the league over the interests of their team. Likewise, no Republican will ever put the interest of their country over the interest of their party.
