I actually wonder when other sports will wind up doing this deferral more. Especially hockey where they talk about the Canadian taxes a lot.

NHL just had their Canadian tax loophole closed by CRA (signing bonuses) so expect them to institute a new one in the next CBA

All sports have dumb quirks based on rules each sport developed. Like I don’t think the basketball trades for 6 second rounders is all that great for the game.

Yep, agree, like the offer sheet is only hockey, the mid level exception and bird rule for hockey.

I just know hockey has talked the taxes a lot because of Florida, Vegas vs Canada, California, NY.

I think the signing bonus and deferrals are also a tool to skirt state taxes.
