The new ground is impressive but wish it had been possible to future-proof Goodison. Unfortunately the club spent so many years weaponising its limitations when they wanted to apply pressure over leaving (Kenwright’s ‘safety tests’ claim, Elstone over WHP) that the opportunity never arose
Unless we had done what LFC have done & brutalised the local community by knocking down multiple streets… the church, the school, all the businesses on Goodison Road… all for a Frankenstein stadium with limited scope for state of the art facilities. I love Goodison but we should have left yrs ago.
The proposals put forward by The Blue Union, Trevor Skempton and others had potential without eroding the surrounding area but the club’s longstanding preference was a new ground. The only time redevelopment was considered was Elstone advocating 7,000 extra seats being added to the Park End
I remember the Trevor Skempton plans well, I was never fully convinced it was possible, personally. I think one of the biggest mistakes was building the Park End with a single tier in the early 90s.
Nights like last night are incredible, wonderful, spine-tingling, incomparable, footy at its best, what we all grew up on…. But being a top team challenging, winning things, in modern 2025 facilities… that would trump Goodison & all that it brings. A new EFC, free of baggage, ready for reinvention.
weirdly he gave gfe money when they tried to get a survey of goodison done. i remember everton refused to give the surveyor access to enter goodison to do his thing..........that was under johnson.
