To me I feel like Ness’s ego is shackled by Kaiser. We see this on his manga cover art with the blue rose’s stem intertwining with the chains.
I think with Kaiser telling him to give up on soccer has shattered him emotionally, however, this will either free Ness or destroy him 😰
