was arguably too expensive for a while but basically every lunch option bar supermarket meal deals is expensive now so you simply cannot say a bad thing against Gail's, it's flawless is what it is

I miss being able to get their cheese and ham croissant, a thing of such magnificence. Perfect for office-bound hangovers, days after heavy exercise, feeling a bit sad days, sunny days, rainy days, feeling perky days, ambivalent days
I think I just get irked by the performative "I'm authentic me" Greggs worship, when it's just another billion+ turnover corporate that has slain many a small baker
Having grown up with a different baking tradition, I've tried several other chains and smaller baked goods suppliers in UK, down south and up north and I'd say they're a bit "Starbucksy" : capable of beating the rubbish oppn which is widespread, but not really more
I’d never heard of Gail’s until the controversy of the last few days. Luckily where I live has a brilliant array of independent cafes and restaurants so I only ever encounter the chains when I’m stuck in an airport.
You know how there’s that internet rule about there being porn of everything? Nonsense. There’s always a tweet from someone about how they hate something with every fibre of their being.
It’s ok. It’s rather been given the Bill’s treatment, and I’m sorry the Chelsea buns have gone, as they were genuinely good (not as good as Fitzbillies’ but good).

It's not just a perfect substitute for your indie local cafe with 3 sandwiches, a scone and 2 croissants.
I have mixed feelings about both. I don't particularly like Gails, but sometimes it is the best choice and their toilets are usually working.
Greggs, well, I am a big fan of sausage rolls/baked goods but I prefer going to local bakeries, or butchers. Greggs sorts of crowds that out
Me? It’s pandas.
