Liara's arc over the trilogy gives her a depth and sense of agency that makes her a wonderful partner for Shepard and a true confidant. There's also an underlying thoughtfulness and quiet to their romance (especially in 3) that also appeals to me.
I adore his arc, even though it might be less visible than some of the others. He's someone who has his shit together while still being unsure about himself and his abilities while not needing to be fixed. (Plus, Raphael Sbarge did an amazing job as his VA)
I donβt have a stable romance. Iβve done most of them, and I try and get a different one each playthrough. The only reason Iβm some is because I prefer playing fem-shep and most of them are locked to bro-shep. Which is ridiculous.
I romance Kaidan as m!shep and I love the slow burn friends to lovers. Two men who have been through so much together finding love when the universe at war. Kaidan is a sweetheart, who also has been thru a lot and his character growth in ME3 is amazing.
I love the build-up of this relationship!
Kaidan. I appreciate the very grown up way the conflict in their relationship first arises and then gets resolved, it's a nice arc. I do occasionally romance Thane in 2 though because... well, not to be redundant but their romance is very romantic lol
Thane Krios. Every time. Heβs so magnetic & clearly loves Shep so incredibly much. As much as it hurts to see him die each time, heβs worth every minute.
Garrus just swept me off my feet. I just love the best friends to lovers trope, and he respects Shep so much and trusts her. It gives me all the mushies π₯°
Jaal for similar reasons. I love how open and honest he is with Ryder. His loyalty to those he loves too. Their flirting is just so cute.
Comments
1. Love how he's written (incredibly principled & kind)
2. Love the sound of his voice (kudos to his VA who equally seems like a sweetheart)
In all seriousness, Garrus just won me over from when we met him in game one. Maybe it was his personality, his quirks, his loyalty?
Maybe everything, I don't know.

I romance Peebee in Andromeda
(Yeah, mods exist but the implementation is not finished in 3)

Then I loved what they did in ME2. I loved him for his integrity and ability to stand up to Shep.
Then continued in 3 because I loved him, loved the slight angst at the start and the resolution.
I love the build-up of this relationship!
2: Thane
3: Directly a spoiler so ??
It makes such a good story. Especially if you romance her through the whole series.
If you do, she gets brave enough to say she loves Shepard first, instead of Shepard saying it first. That moment really hits me for some reason.
I love the dynamic of a βwe will always love each other and be friends but weβve changed too much to be togetherβ relationship between Liara and my Shep. And then I love watching Shep and Garrus fall in love and grow with each other π©΅
I love me a competent, mature man who does his own emotional labor, and a quietly spiritual assassin.
I am, unfortunately, a sucker for the "I can fix him" trope. Also just extremely adorable dialogue and messages π
I love her so much but I feel weird romancing women with a male character
