I have little hope that it will occur within the MAGA or the GOP ranks despite my earlier statement. However, if we start to have societal collapse, as a consequence of economic downturn and declining environmental conditions, things could be very different.
I agree that the MAGA base that is not that involved in politics, people who are predominantly the labour force, people who care about grocery prices, they will revolt soon. It might take 6 months though.
Look at what Trump has done in 1 month, I’m terrified to think what 6 months looks like. He could cause a wide world economic depression. Someone needs to take him out.
I’m scared to think the lasting damage but I’m also hopeful of the lasting memory. If there is enough pain and disruption maybe we will see the end of this cycle of populist politics for a while? Change comes from winning or losing.
I agree, through pain comes change. We are seeing a revolt against establishment politics, the rise of populism is a consequence of that. When populist leaders fail to improve people’s standards of living, as they inevitably will, they will be ousted. However, will the mechanisms of democracy remain
Yep. My observation has been that Covid gave extended life to this populist cycle as the Conservative movement conscripted them to fracture cohesion to get a foothold. Also the investor focus of Govs ignored the workers for too long and their pain is the change.

Russia has regular elections. Putin routinely wins 80% of the vote.
That's what happens when an autocracy controlling state media brainwashes the populace.
