That’s cool as shit. Must be doing some clever Nameserver passthrough validation shenanigans to avoid having a catastrophically huge number of TXT requests for everyone using this and accidentally DDOSing themselves. Top work @leafo.itch.io.

no DNS necessary, there's a way to do validation with a URL path under .wellknown, was easy to set up on existing sub-domains

I wonder how it validates. If Bsky just requests the validation once every few hours then it might not be too bad.

It’d probably be periodic validation, wouldn't need to happen too often. Maybe once every day or two. Itch could run their own nameserver where they can receive and dynamically respond to TXT record requests that lookup and match user domain against their records and send back the right key, maybe?

I assumed they’re running their own nameservers already, given the range of dynamically generated subdomains for each account and the speed at which they propagate. V deep arcane IT voodoo going on for a website where people make li’l games. I love it.
