Tbh, I'd just cancel the trip and/or ask the convention management if they're going to organise some sort of online participation. (If you are a speaker: Holding your panel via Zoom or so. If you are an attendee: Asking for streaming the panels.) People have been detained for weeks for no reason.
not even citizens of long time us and nato allies (or whatever should be considered safe) are risk free these days when entering the us. there are arrests happening on all kinds of bogus claims and then they are being vanished into some lawless black hole
Granted so far white trans people haven’t been rounded up the way POC have been (continue to be) by the US. But we’re checking the news daily for when our documents “aren’t valid” or “don’t match”

It worries me that empathy might not be available to people of various privileges. I hope that’s not baked into human nature.
But stories help bridge that too.
